Ada Heasman

Filmmaking Student at the University of Staffordshire

About Me

I am a final year film production student at the University of Staffordshire, looking to gain more editing experience. I have always held a deep love for storytelling, and enjoy editing as it works like a puzzle - allowing me to create a story from little pieces. I also have a great passion for screenwriting and photography, which I am always looking to explore further.

I am AVID certified, proficient in the Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop) and Davinci Resolve. I also hold a full UK driving licence, and love travelling!

Projects

Visit Approved

Visit Approved is a short action comedy about a couple of bloodthirsty TV Licence agents. As a project, it was my first foray into directing, as well as producing. The shoot took place across multiple days and locations, offering a few challenges in post. This allowed me to develop my skills in Adobe After Effects, as I was required to mask out certain backgrounds to avoid continuity errors. This was my first experience editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, which I really enjoyed. The credit design was an absolute high for me, as I had a lot of fun modelling it on early 2000s anti-piracy ads, but taken to the extreme. Visit Approved was screened in EVOLVE25, where it received a lot of honourable mentions and Filmmaker Sessions Volume 12. Check it out!

KNOW YOUR PLACE

KNOW YOUR PLACE is a short surreal comedy about sexual harassment, which follows two young men on "National Chase Women Home Night." They're all set for the festivities, but there's one problem - Tim's let the homunculus loose. This project began following a night out where I was repeatedly harassed and followed home by a man who wouldn't leave me alone. It was my first experience working with visual effects, including motion capture, chroma keying and HDRI integration. Give it a watch!

Client Work for North Staffordshire Trampolining Club

This was my first serious look into client work, allowing me to spend time documenting something which I care deeply about - making fitness fun and accessible for all! NSTC specialises in providing trampolining for those with SEND - children and adults. They also offer recreational trampolining and squad classes for all ages and abilities. This series was very fun to create, and came off the back of a photography project which I also completed with them. As a result of this work I was able to get a job creating and managing social media content for them. Creating social media-ready content provided a fun change for me, and a couple of highlights were working with music and creating captions. Check it out on YouTube, or take a look at the NSTC Facebook or Instagram pages!

Her Skin Is So Soft Now

Her Skin Is So Soft Now is a short drama which follows a trans woman navigating her relationship, identity and substance abuse. It's my first experience writing and directing a genuinely serious film, and exploring the subject material with as much sensitivity and accuracy was of paramount importance to me. This film gave me experience with designing and constructing sets, working with virtual production and performing aesthetic visual effects. It also won a grant from Inspired Film and Media. It's currently still in the edit, and is awaiting a festival rollout. Stay tuned!
